RSE 1st qtr economic impact study

Unread post by Walk in the Park »

$1,006,432
spent in the
County by RSE
Students in 1st
Quarter 2008
Contributes to Local Economy
During the first quarter of
2008, a large number of RSE
students from all over the
world returned to the City of
Yelm and its surroundings
to participate in their yearly
Retreats at Ramtha?s School
of Enlightenment (RSE).
New students attending their
Beginning Retreat at RSE
also visited Yelm for the first
time. According to the data collected at these events, the total
local purchases and expenses outside of RSE listed by those
students who participated in the survey ? out of the entire
group of 2,240 students who attended RSE during this period
? reached $1,006,432, an average of $449 per student (these
figures do not include their event registration fees).
Students who participate in this survey during events in
Yelm are asked to list the amount of money spent locally in
the following categories: transportation (car rentals, local
airport shuttles, RV rentals), gasoline, groceries, restaurants,
lodgings, camping supplies (tents, sleeping bags, clothing,
other supplies), purchases on campus (not including event
registration costs), house/pet sitting, storage, and childcare.
International RSE students visiting from abroad also
participate in this survey, as simultaneous foreign translation
in six languages is offered during events as needed (Dutch,
French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish). These
demographic records are open to the public for review and
audit upon request.
In the first quarter last year, a total of $933,000, short of
one million dollars, was spent by 2,068 RSE students visiting
the local community then, an average of $451 per student.
This year, during the same period, the economic impact of
RSE students to the local community increased beyond one
million dollars to $1,006,432. The average contribution per
student remained almost the same as last year.
Ramtha?s School is very pleased to know its school classes
and events are generating a significant contribution to the
local Yelm area economy. Each year the school holds several
events such as these where the economy of Yelm and its
vicinity is greatly uplifted.
We appreciate all the local businesses that
supported our students with their goods and
services while they visited our area. Thank You!
Sincerely,
Ramtha?s School of Enlightenment

of that $451, how much do you think was spent in the Annex aka Quantum Cafe
or the food vendors ON campus....all which RSE makes money from?
Ask any foreigner how much they spend on the bi-annual trips to Yelm in the Annex.
CD's, the latest books, the latest music, etc et.....

Such is paid advertising (even if I wanted an audit...... )

I was in audience a few times, when staff TOLD students to fill out the questionnaire that was being passed around. It had to do with estimating how much money was spent by students, which when tallied, would be shared with 'outsiders' to show them how the school supports local economy.

Well, it was never mentioned that the data would be used for PAID advertisements.

Also, let's question how accurate the data is. We were told to do the paperwork as quickly as possible as they were collecting it promptly. Also, we were told that the data would be used to share with outsiders, so we wanted to make it look good, too. Does that sounds like a message encouraging people to fudge as much as they feel they can ? That's just how I heard it.

It's far from an accurate accounting, that's for sure. As mentioned, where is the audit? Where is the evidence that the data is accurate ? Ha hahahahah ! Don't hold your breath !

I filled out one of those also. We were told we needed to impress the local officials. I felt like the school was trying to defend its existance.

Same thing with me at every event I attended in Yelm. SO much of that money was spent in the then Outback Cafe on premises for DVD's, books, t-shirts, caps, music CD's (music of artists used during C&E). Most of the money I spent was right there in THAT shop. It would appear RSE has no conscience whatsoever. We were never informed our hurried estimates were being used for paid ads, as stated above.
