Had an opportunity to watch the second hour of this program last night. It was eye opening, or rather, affirmation of all that has been shared by Joe on this site. There are indeed common elements to the phenomenon of cults. All in such groups never think they are in cults until some such point they have left the cult and have a chance to realize their loss of identity, ability to make independent choices (without filtering through approval of leader, or the community of fellow believers). The similar injuries and deaths of those who believe in God, or the belief that their leader/guru/Christ-on-Earth, their PERSONAL teacher who is their link to God, will heal. What was eerie and scary is the further examples of how when death happens, they immediately think this is either because of the individual not being worthy, or the belief, that is okay, they are with God, the other loved ones, and this is (whomevers) will. It never occurs to those invested emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially that they have the same exact options without spending all the money, loss of belongings, their family, friends, job, life... either people will live or die, get better (healed?) or not. Either way it is justified, rationalized, that it must be for the best.

The transition from subtle to overt need to leave parents, family, friends, your past, your life, your individualism behind happens time and time again.

IT is a bit slow, but worth watching. I will hope to catch the first hour of the documentary program tonite.

It also addresses that educated, even from great families, can get charismatically attracted thru one individual in the group, or the leader, and it happens under the name of getting to know the bible, or God, or help others, or learning to help others, or be pleasing to God...

There was no element of the documentary that could not, or has not applied to the true legacy of the new age era, gurus, and evangelical church group followings.
