Yearning for the New Age

Unread post by joe sz »

this is a great book, well researched by Diane Sasson, PhD about Laura Holloway-Langford (1843-1930) who was involved with Madame Blavatsky and Theosophy, was a medium and later rejected Theosophy.

everyone that leaves RSE should read this...the New Age and channeling mythical roots are there in Laura (Carter) Holloway-Langford, who was an accomplished writer and newspaper reporter in her day (the only woman on staff) and was also a seeker familiar with Shakers, Theosophists, feminists, a US president.....

clarification: Laura Holloway-Langford did not reject theosophy per se, but she did reject the Theosophical Society under Blavatsky and Olcott.

LHL privately believed in her [LHL's] "mediumistic powers' til the end, yet did not want to be seen as a psychic---a truly complex woman with prodigious writing talents and deep personal insecurities.

LHL later described Blavatsky as "a volcano in petticoats; a woman but masculine in her mental attributes." p162
