David,
Is it not appropriate to combine the 3 separate post threads?

Re: Cult attraction: Aum Shinrikyo’s power of persuasion
Moderator Comment -Is it not appropriate to combine the 3 separate post threads,
NO. Not when posts are taking off on different topics and tangents.
There are bound to be overlaps and this is often let ride if the topic thread is regained but if they wander too far 'off topic',
very likely a moderator will split and moved the posts to its own topic thread or to our recycle bin.
Its the moderators call.
EMF may appear haphazard in its PHPBB format of thread titles, postings and moderation.
But please understand it has taken years of time consuming and meticulous work - 24/7 moderating EMF to keep it safe and navigable
in what is often unchartered and volatile RSE/Cult recovery waters.
A topic can turn quickly into a forum furball without moderation, but if moderated it is always open and made clear a post has been moderated.
That is why we ask all poster to KEEP ON TOPIC. Besides.... It just plain common sense and courtesy to other posters and readers.
We have tried to make this clear in our EMF Rules For Posting....Yes EMF does have rules for posting and for very good reason if EMF is to be a viable resource < to RSE survivors, family, friends and professional, and to help keep the moderators sane
I hope this helps your understanding on how EMF works...We are generally not concerned about theological issues but instead are more concerned about the psychological, physical, social and economic consequences of RSE involvement.
Religious debate does not belong on EMF.
