recovery from RSE and its relevance today

Unread post by joe sz »

When EMF began around 2007, I was a regular supporter of the forum for nearly a decade, but things have changed. So have I. I no longer believe that everyone caught up in the Ramtha cult will grow or learn their way out of it. Last year I retired from nearly 27 years working for a psychiatric emergency hospital, so I encountered and evaluated many hundreds, maybe thousands, of people with mental and character disorders with or without substance use issues exacerbating their problems. Some of these people came back to the hospital voluntarily or involuntarily year after year with the same recurring disorders and symptoms. Many I evaluated had "cult" issues that were never addressed in the basic treatment models in psychiatry, but all of them appreciated the insights I could share. Most often I heard, "You're the first counselor that ever took that (cult) part of my life seriously!"

One of the traits I had to assess was "reality testing: poor, fair, or good" with evidence to support it in my narrative. New Age cults like RSE tend to be on the poor side of reality testing as a group employing overvalued ideas about how the mind/will/spirit can change reality. Often, there is a history of being "fantasy prone" and testing that shows the consumer to be higher on the absorption scale (suggestibility) then the norm.

Of course, cult members defect for a variety of reasons: abuse of time, money, and relationships among them. But not all can let go of their inclinations to apophenia or seeing connections where there are none. This manifests in belief in all kinds of conspiracy theories to some degree, or ideas that do not stand up to historical and scientific evidence. I noticed that It takes work, years of work, to fine tune reality testing after someone defects from a fantasy-prone group like RSE. Some people retain fantasy proneness after leaving a cult.

Today, RSE seems to be an echo of itself from decades ago with no significant growth other than new ways to market its limited and limiting pseudo-gnostic products. Judith is ageing and history shows that as the channeler's brain ages and corrupts, so do the messages of the mind puppets they channel (like Ramtha). So within, so without. Judith has taken some people on quite a ride. This forum remains a valuable healing resource for anyone that has tried to get off or gotten off.
