I listened to video lectures by Dr. Rebecca Lemov about the cult problem. She is quite popular. So is linguist professor Amanda Montell, author of "Cultish" whose recent video lecture got 780,000 views in only 7 days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7wCbbmLtiI So, this topic has grown with increasing interest for the past ten years. Montell concentrated somewhat on her father's Synanon cult experience. Synanon was loaded with "loaded language" or as she noted, or the thought terminating cliché, using a phrase from Robert J. Lifton. If today we look for information about cults and mind control and recovery, we will be swamped and stuck on Netflix and other live-streaming services for many months just to catch up. I've been at this since 1980 when I quit a cult that was based in Theosophy, much like RSE is. It can be mind-numbing to keep up with all the "expertise." I posted one comment on Amanda Montell's video: "Well-presented and informative, but what is missing is the fact that to be forewarned is not to be forearmed. In my career over 40 years as a cult interventionist, I've encountered many people who ended up in groups weirder and more out-there than Synanon AFTER having had a class or read a book on the cult problem. Listening to this video will not greatly protect you." Information alone is not all that valuable, much like skepticism. How skillfully we apply skepticism and when, I think, is the key to self-protection from the CON GAME.

For the most part I found these cult documentaries released over the past ten years... such as the more recent NXIVM cult, led by Keith Raniere and Netflix series Wild Wild Country were more entertainment productions than an educational “mind control and recovery” expose to serve as a valuable Forewarned is forearmed production.
They shared little information such as interviews with leading psychologist to simply ask.... Why do educated and well meaning people join cults?
and stay in them often leading to the destruction of their families and an early grave, despite the seemingly obvious signs of manipulation and abuse?
The answer lies in the dark psychological mind control methods used to brainwash their members that lead to the abandonment of critical thinking alongside the insidious abandonment of moral and ethical behavior... With the end justifying the means Machiavelli mindset used by the cults and political leaders, Government mind control clandestine operations, ..and much like the frog metaphor.. its followers remaining in a situation that eventually becomes harmful because the changes are too gradual to be noticed until it is too late! This I experienced firsthand at RSE, where it took all my strength to climb out of is cauldron.
These Cult documentaries barely scratched the surface to on how to protect ourselves and recognize their complex and dangerous psychological manipulations that can have devastating effects on members and society as a whole.
