My Cult Your Cult by Sean Prophet 2025

Post by joe sz »

I read and reviewed this book by Sean Prophet whose parents founded Church Universal and Triumphant before he was born into it. His former cult has many similarities to Ramtha as an offshoot of the older "I AM" Activity and Blavatsky's Theosophical Society. Worth a read.

As always...Thank you Joe,
Alongside a massive Thank you and Kudos to Sean Prophet.
I look forward to reading your review of Sean Prophet's book "My Cult Your Cult: How Cults Destroy Truth and Bolster Authoritarian Power"
So many dark parallels between RSE and CUT.
I guess its a wasted hope that JZ Knight's two sons Brandy and Christopher will ever come clean and write a book about their childhood experiences at RSE. Perhaps after Judith sheds her off her mortal coil?
No doubt they have much in common with Sean Prophet's experiences at being used and abused in his mothers Cult (CUT).

Sean Prophet was vice president of a millenarian cult that predicted nuclear war and prepared to survive it—building massive underground bomb shelters and stockpiling food and weapons for thousands of followers.

My Cult Your Cult is part insider case study—and part personal reckoning.

Prophet was born into Church Universal and Triumphant (CUT), which began as The Summit Lighthouse. The cult was founded in 1958 by his father, Mark Prophet, and later led by his mother, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, both of whom claimed to channel “Ascended Masters.” CUT drew from Theosophy, Agni Yoga, Rosicrucianism, and the Mighty I AM—a lineage steeped in spiritual elitism, racialized mythology, and authoritarian control.

During its most extreme period, Prophet held a position of apparent authority as CUT’s vice president, yet remained firmly under his mother’s spiritual dominance—constrained by a system of secrecy, loyalty, and manipulation. In 1987, she predicted a Soviet nuclear strike for 1989—setting in motion one of the largest private bomb shelter construction efforts in American history. When the prophecy failed, he left the organization and began the long process of confronting his complicity and emerging as one of its sharpest critics.

The book draws powerful parallels between CUT’s apocalyptic dogma and the authoritarian tactics of contemporary movements including MAGA, Christian Nationalism, and online cults like QAnon. Prophet’s analysis shows how cults and authoritarian governments alike weaponize divine claims to exploit fear, suppress dissent, and dismantle human rights.

Sean unpacks his childhood in sprawling mansions turned cult compounds, the roots of the group’s “ascended master” theology, the peril and privilege of being born to leadership, and why spiritual bootcamp so often blurs into psychological abuse. We tackled the insidious dangers of purity culture, the mind-bending logic of channeling, and the very fuzzy line between a “cult” and a “mainstream religion.” Expect anecdotes about bunker-building, guru-devotion, apocalyptic drama, and real lessons on power, othering, and reclaiming your own critical thinking. You’ll want to stay tuned for part two and follow Sean Prophet on

But he has nothing on at all, cried at last the whole people....
