In the 70's and 80's there were many people claiming psychic powers. There were millions upon millions of people who believed in the "scientifically documented" powers of Uri Geller and others. For at least decades, if not centuries & millenea, faith healthers have provided a place in our societies and cultures. Also popular in the past few decades were 'psychic surgeries'. Here are just 5 links (out of many more) that offer interesting reading and other viewpoints OTHER than to just assume that everything we are told by those claiming they are paranormal or have anomolous experiences is confined only to what they claim.

The reason for sharing these links may become self evident after you review them. In general, however, please be kind to yourself if you have periods in which you feel that you have either misplaced your belief and trust, and consequently feel a cascade of emotions (embarrassment, shame, humiliation, anger). Entertainers, illusionists, and well, yes, those proclaiming to be a servant of God, a healer, or gifted soul, successfully influence and perform for billions of people on our planet every minute of the day, world-wide. It says in the Bible, "it is done unto you as you believe". These are examples only of how others have "entertained" us in the past. In the most expensive and consequential entertainment however, people put their faith, trust, believe, money, land, possessions, and set-aside their own intelligence, previous experience, wisdom, and their own divine, innate talents. This is the suspension of disbelief that we all participate in whenver we watch a television program, the theatre, a book, and select a genre of movie and allow ourselves to "get into" the story.

Another reason this is being shared, is to realize that over time (months, years, decades...) the amazing claims, alleged healing, miracles, powers, prophecies, all can be seen in a different light. [ The gift of hind-sight is often a very special power indeed!].

These links are presented only for your consideration and entertainment, they are arbitrary examples, and not specifically about the people, claims, demonstrations.

Always considered myself a sensible woman, but I have had experiences which make me question whether the skeptics are entirely correct in their view of things.

There are links I could place here that would shock some...however, since this forum is designed to wean people away from belief in the paranormal (or at least the investment of time, money and angst in it), not going to do that here.

Just think that we all need something to believe in, regardless of what - whether science, esp, God, demons and goblins, fictional characters, phylosophical positions, heroes, political parties, great world figures, etc., etc. And if leaving one belief system means you have to throw them all out, people will be less likely to leave.

Just my two cents...

I can identify with this, too. I've had experiences that keep me from becoming a total skeptic. Actually, my personal opinion is that some of the super skeptical things I've read, sound like they are looking to invalidate EVERYTHING paranormal. There is a magazine I'm thinking of, that's like that. As I have posted a number of times in the past, I've been clairvoyant since I was a little girl, so I KNOW that paranormal abilities are genuine. However, IMO, just as I wouldn't accept everything, or everyone who claims paranormal ability, experience, etc, I wouldn't necessarily believe they're being HONEST about it. Been there, done that.

They attempt to invalidate EVERYTHING that is paranormal, and alternative (healthcare, etc). In my opinion, they have lost credibility in my eyes, because they are too extreme and there is data that does not support their contradictory claims. For one example, they bash homeopathy - which HAS been studied and proven to work. It makes me wonder WHO is behind that magazine and what their agenda is.

LIS, you make an important point - this site is PRIMARILY designed for the people who are really not at their best, coming out of a place like RSE, or coping with a family/friend who is in there. Finding a fair balance on this site is no easy task. I have certainly not shunned "paranormal", either. Some on this site who are aware of that - and my PERSONAL leanings (which I have never posted), have slammed me for it and gossiped about me, attempting to discredit me because of what I believe. Oh, well. That's unfortunate, but as we all do, I have a right to my beliefs and ideally, it would be good if we could respect one another's differences.

One of the videos posted on this site, has the interviewee commenting that in 30-something years, she has NEVER talked to a person who had precognitive dreams. So, does that mean that it doesn't happen ???? Of course not. It only means that she hasn't had the experience. I've had MANY precognitive dreams. When it happens, I share it with those close to me, because over time, they've learned what I've learned, certain dreams do happen in daily life, and they are forecasts of the future. Case in point: About 6 weeks ago, I dreamt of someone I know being pregnant. I had no idea if that person was even trying to conceive - no reason to have such a dream. Bottom line, I learned two weeks ago that the person is in fact, pregnant. It's her first baby-to-be. I had told my family members about the dream, as I always do, to validate it when it occurs. There is a certain level of "vividness" to my precognitive dreams that I am able to recognize, because I'm used to it.

Leaving one belief system doesn't mean we have to throw it all out, nor that it's all invalid. It just means that leaving the one we left, wasn't valid.

I agree with both 2cents each shared. Thanks! I add it and say ditto.

Again, my only reason in sharing the link was as I came upon it by accident, there were examples of people using headsets and pretending to heal, etc.

I also think that skeptics who attempt to debunk everything (including science, religion, people, paranormal, and anything that isn't to their exact belief system) shut out the unexplainable anomolous experiences which, even one of the reviews of the J. Edwards admitted, they can't explain them all.

At least we are free to have dreams, with or without permission. The gag order that Dr. J wouldn't sign makes sense.

There have been so many great posts and sharing in last few weeks, thanks to all.

Whatever, and whomever we believe in is important in our sense of well being, purpose and order. For those of us who were drawn to the original (classic) words and teachings, had they remained tolerant, and seemingly providing answers to everything (past, present and future) we would have the ability to have it serve as a cornerstone of our life experiences. With the changes, over and over, and from loving to judgmental and accusatory, it ironically became the same personality that we were told was JHVH.

Again, as I attempted to share, I only incidentally came across those examples, and I thought it was interesting as to how most of us are trusting, willing to believe whoever and whatever is presented as being true. The skeptics don't stop there, I agree, it's like they have an agenda to convert everyone to skeptics or atheists, or whatever. There are a few points and one liners in the various site references that reminded me of how re-processing something we believed for over 20 years can be confusing and painful. We can and do move on with our lives, and discover or rediscover that which once brought us joy... only one doesn't have to wait for the word, approval for what actions, and priorities we are authorized to not only think and do, but dream.

There is so much in life that can never be proved or disproved. Belief systems, whether about mystical things, political, religous, tradition, heritage, creed, scientific theories, predictions, certainly seem to be the real motivating force in just about everything.

I think there is something to be said about balance and everything in moderation.

yes, I think people coming out, are not at their "best". They have been emotionally, psychologically, financially,and socially messed with.There are even some who have been out for a while, yet have no idea or knowledge of what actually happend and what the course of recovery is all about. If one doesn't have information about why one's cognitive skills or memory is retarded, then how would one know?

So, posts like this, and EMF in general is a very good resource.

Another thing...

One time I was at an event. We had been let go to "replenish our supplies". Well, you all know that means to go to the grocery store and buy more food, get ice, get more clothing if you need it, take a shower before you suffocate those around you cuz you stink so bad from being in audience for five days in the heat with no shower...nasty...whatever.

So, I said to the person I was with, "I have this awful feeling that my son "John Doe", is hurt!" Now, my son at that time, was about 4 years old and he was with a babysitter so I could be at my event. I was SO strongly impressed with this "feeling" (clairsentience), that I phoned the babysitter right then. She was holding my son, who was sobbing because he had fallen and did quite a number scraping himself badly. I was able to talk with him on the phone and help to calm him down.

Coincidence ? I will never think so. What's more is JZR commonly said, "DO NOT CALL HOME." So, like a dutiful student, it wasn't uncommon for me to go through a ten day event and NOT call home. That phone call was very odd for me.

I am mentioning this because IN MY OPINION it is very sad when ex-students throw the baby out with the bathwater. We're all more or less intuitive. We can let that be, despite RSE, instead of shunning it because of RSE.

Oh, the kids want ice cream for dessert........sounds good to me......

Yes, I believe such things are possible...
It's funny how misunderstandings can arise around such things..
While researching, I came accross the "psychic keys test" and the "Zenner cards test"...the later was used in CIA experiments, they were trying to counter so-called "Eastern mind control techniques"....I became fascinated with the psychic keys test, I think it's more fun...I use it to gauge my mood...the worse I feel the better I do. Anyway, was on a library computer, idly filling the rest of my time slot with this test, when I noticed the person next to me got so uncomfortable they bolted- I could just hear them talking to friends about the "evil lady" in the library, lol.
I mean, where do you draw the line? To me, it was entertainment, but to some, evidence of witchcraft or satanic/demonic posession.

I hear what you're saying but I think that folks are just going to have their opinions, and those who believe what they believe, (judgements), may not be easy to change. They don't WANT to change. Well, you know that. It's not your problem. You could have been doing research....whatever.
